About Laurie

Laurie is a registered Clinical Counsellor with a Masters in Counselling Psychology and an undergraduate degree in Child and Youth Care, both from the University of Victoria. Laurie has lived in Victoria for over thirty years and has raised her three children here in Victoria. Laurie is empathetic and compassionate and is easily able to build rapport with her clients. Laurie brings warmth, humanity, and humour to her counselling work.

Laurie has diverse experiences and skills that she brings to her practice. She has many years experience counselling individuals, youth, couples and families helping to create and enhance emotionally connected relationships, resiliency and connection with their community. She has worked in private practice, non-profit sector, as well as within various agencies including: Child and Youth Mental Health, the Ministry of Children and Family Development, Blanshard Community Center, Esquimalt Neigbhourhood House, BC Families in Transition, Victoria Native Friendship Center, and Parent Support Services of BC. She also worked in private practice with Traci McGee, supporting mothers experiencing Post Partum Depression and anxiety.

Couples Counselling

Laurie takes a special interest in working with couples. Whether you are just beginning your relationship or have been together for many years, Laurie uses the latest development in couples research to help you navigate challenges and create fulfilling passionate relationships.  She also supports individuals through separation and divorce, and helps couples to discover ways to end a relationship in a way that both honors the relationship and allows for building healthier future relationships.

Group Sessions

Laurie facilitates several different groups through the Single Parent Resource Centre, which focus on attachment, parenting and relationships. She also offers workshops and groups on a variety of topics at the Vancouver Island Naturopathic Clinic. Group topics include: Family Dynamics, Romantic relationships, and Families in Transition. Professional Development

Laurie is committed to continued learning and developing her skills to support inviduals in healing. Laurie has attended, and continues to attend, numerous conferences and trainings on trauma, relationships, anxiety and depression. Laurie is presently completing a two year course in Somatic Transformation which incorporates emerging research from neuroscience into her practice. Somatic focused therapy is a gentle way to restore the body’s ability to self regulate and heal from overwhelming experiences.
